A Sullivan appears, wearing a sundress and a large hat and is buzzing excitedly around the new cards. It pauses and looks up at the shop keep and bows.

"Hello! I... think I'm building decks for my friends and I maaaay need a little help. Some of these new mechanics are throwing me off."

"When XYZ's were the new and hot thing! It's... been a year or so. Maybe a bit longer. I, uh, borrowed my roommate's new pendulum Zefra deck, and he gave it to me since I liked it so much! So I wanna try and maybe replace it with something for him and some kinda DARK deck for another friend as well~"

So you're not used to Pendulum, you want Dark Attribute Decks, and I didn't quite catch the third request.

"Oh, sorry~ We're a little scatter brained right now. I just need two decks and maybe a bit of advice on using Zefra. One is to replace the Zefra to my roommate and the other is to help out a kid~ The replacement should PROBABLY be Pendulum, but nothing cute. Something serious and down to Earth. The kid was using a, uh... Dark World deck and I'd like to get him something better~"

Well let's start off. What do you need help with Zefra? Inherently, they're a Jack of All Trades, Master of None sort of Deck.

"Mmm~ I think it's mostly just hard to get all of the cards I need in hand. Pendulum summoning is usually super doable, but it's hard to get what I need in tight squeezes, especially against other, more specialized pendulums." A hrrrm.

"I've considered more Yang Zing and less Stellarknights, since XYZ stuff isn't reeeeally suited for Pendulums."

My first personal suggestion is you run the most cards possible. Secondly, whoever told you Xyz and Pendulums not working together is foolish. Xyz is the most popular combination with Pendulums until the new Metalfoe theme.

But it sounds like you inherently have an issue with Draw power and Search Power. The new draw card "Pot of Cupidity" as it's currently called, sacrifices 10 cards from your Deck to draw 2 but that might be hostile to Zefra.

You should be using the search effects of your Shaddolls, Nekroz and Satellarknights to get nearly whatever it is you seek.

And of course, it depends which direction you seek to go with Zefra. Do you seek to combine Shaddoll, Nekroz, Satellarknight and Yang Zing? Do you seek a more Satellarknight focus? Symphonic Warriors?

"Well, draw power would be nice... And then Pot of Dichotomy can help me recover things that I end up discarding with that~ At least some of it. What I think I need. And, I don't think I'm using my search stuff to their full extent yet. I think I need to maybe get better at using them, besides maybe just Deneb... And I like the combination deck, it's just more unstable than my last deck, which was Evil Swarm."

That's inherently the design of Zefra. You have more inconsistency at the chance of bigger explosive chains.

Ideally, with the Deck, you're doing several things for search.

Nekroz of Brionac searches out most of your key Nekroz monsters, with Clausolas searching the Spells.

Deneb and Reinforcement of the Army searches out the Satellarknights.

Shaddoll Fusion would set up for most of your Key Plays had they not Forbidden Construct, so that's a minus the Satellars, but you can place Nekroz in your Graveyard for Nekroz Cycle, Zefraxa opens the Fire Attribute Fusion...

As far as the Main Deck Nekroz, you want to go with Hedgehog to search, Shaddoll Beast to keep drawing and Falco for recursion.

If you lack sufficient draw power, Chicken Game, now that I think of it, might do well enough, as well, provided you can replace it with Oracle of Zefra in a timely enough manner.

"Yeah... Hrm. I think I'm gonna do more of the Nekroz, then. Maybe more Shaddoll, then. I don't think I've been using them to their full extent either. I'll toss in those Hedgehog's and maybe that Chicken Game. I think what threw me off was my very first duel was a little under duress and it just didn't give me anything to pull off the combos I did my second~ I may be fretting over nothing."

Sounds like at worst, you had bad tests, so to speak.

My suggestion then would be more private play testing.

As to DARK Attribute...

Blackwings, Ally of Justice, Dark World, Steelswarm, Evilswarm, Inzektor, Infernity, Exodia, Cardian, Dark Scorpion, Ghostrick, Jinzo, Phantom Knights, Vampire, Dark Magician, and Raidraptor are the biggest and most stable options among those.

"I may just get more Evilswarm and Evilswarm support. I think they could be good still, competitive with all of these pendulums, if you get it right and get lucky enough..."

The key is to drop Ophion and sit on it with infinite protection, yes.
